General Smallwood Middle School

8th Grade Trip Information

King’s Dominion

On Friday, May 24, 2024, participating students from the 8th grade will travel to King’s Dominion in Doswell, Virginia for a day of fun.  Please read the information below-concerning costs, attendance eligibility, and important dates.

Cost: $89.00

This includes admission ($39), a food voucher ($20), an 8th-grade t-shirt ($10), and transportation ($20).

The school does not make a profit from this trip. The cost to students reflects the actual expenses for the trip.

*Students with a valid season pass can deduct the admission price from their cost. Students not attending the trip can still purchase a class shirt for $10.

Collection Dates:

Permission slips will be distributed to students in December. Payment and permission slips will be collected according to our new payment plan process.  All money and paperwork are due by Friday, April 19th. The school has reserved three buses for this trip. The total number of student participants will be limited to 150. Available seats will be filled based on the order that permission slips and payment are received. If students have not brought in the full amount of money or the completed paperwork by April 19th, they will not be able to attend the event.

Payment Plan Process:

We offer a payment plan process where students can bring in money towards the total cost of the trip without having to pay the full $84 at one time.  Students can pay towards their $80 total during the following time frames:

-       February 5th - 9th

-       February 20th - 23rd

-       March 4th - 8th

-       April 8th- 12th

-       April 15th – 19th (with all money being due by April 19th)

Any denomination of money will be accepted to contribute towards the total of $89, but the full payment is due by April 19th.

During these time frames, Ms. Hinds will be available from 8:15-8:35 outside of Room 204 to collect money.  Money can only be submitted to Ms. Hinds.

**Payments can also be submitted online through a new credit card payment system for the above dates as well.  Please see the last page for information about paying by credit card.  Cost can either be paid in full or in $20 installments if using the online credit card process.  This payment window will not open until January 29th. **

Student Eligibility:

Students will return to the school at approximately 8:30 PM on May 24th. Because this field trip extends beyond the regular school day and is not related to an academic course, students must be eligible to participate as outlined in the following eligibility requirements:

·         No failing grades for any subjects for the 3rd quarter as well as no failing grades in the 4th quarter interims as of April 19th.

·         Additionally, any student who receives an out-of-school suspension between January 22nd and the day of the trip, will not be permitted to participate, and no refund.

·         Proof of residency must be submitted by March 29th to be eligible to attend.  Any student who has paid for the trip but has not submitted proof by March 29th will be refunded and will be removed from the trip list.

·         No Hallway students found in the hallway without passes more than 3 times will not be allowed to participate.

Parents, please have a serious discussion with your child about the eligibility requirements for this trip if they are interested in attending.

Suppose a student has contributed money towards their trip during the payment plan time and is later deemed ineligible. In that case, they will be issued a refund check for money that was contributed so far, but after April 19th no refunds will be granted.

****If a student changes their mind or becomes ineligible after the April 12th deadline, their money WILL NOT be refunded for the trip.****

There will be no exceptions for permission slips or payment beyond April 19th, so please plan accordingly. Please keep in mind that participation in this trip is limited to 150 students.

Any questions regarding the class trip should be directed to Ms. Hinds: fhinds@ccboe.com
